Need desktop Word and Excel too? Microsoft sells Microsoft 365 Apps for business (desktop Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, without business email) for A$15.80 + GST a user per month, paid yearly. What stays the same, and what changes
What stays the same
- Your email address. Same domain, same addresses.
- Outlook. Add your Sora Mail account to Outlook on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android and your email works as it always has.
- Word, Excel and PowerPoint, if you need them. Use the free web versions with a free Microsoft account (any email address works), or keep the desktop apps with Microsoft 365 Apps for business.
- Your old mail. We move it across for you.
- Your contacts. They come across too.
What changes
- Your bill. A$6 a mailbox instead of A$11.55 for Business Basic, or much less than Business Standard.
- Calendars in Outlook on a PC. Calendar and contacts sync on iPhone, Mac and Android. Outlook on Windows doesn't connect to standard (CalDAV) calendars by itself, so if your team runs its calendar in Outlook on a PC, talk to us before you switch.
- Teams and OneDrive. They aren't part of Sora Mail. Keep Teams with Teams Essentials if you use it, and download anything you need from OneDrive or SharePoint before you cancel.
- Storage. Microsoft gives 100 GB per mailbox; Sora Mail gives 50 GB, which is plenty for most people. Need more? Sora Mail Plus has 100 GB for A$9.
- No bundled AI. Copilot isn't part of it. Sora Mail Plus adds an API for AI agents if you want one.
What changes at your domain
Your domain stays exactly where it is. Only a few of its settings change, and we check every one of them.
Questions people ask before leaving Microsoft 365
Yes. Add your Sora Mail account to Outlook on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android and your email works the same way it does now. Calendar and contacts sync on iPhone, Mac and Android. Outlook on Windows doesn't sync standard calendars on its own, so if your calendar lives there, talk to us first.
You've got options. The web versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint are free with a Microsoft account, which you can create with any email address. If you need the desktop apps, Microsoft 365 Apps for business includes them without business email. Teams is available on its own as Teams Essentials.
No. We move your old mail across for you. Microsoft 365 accounts need a Microsoft sign-in to copy mail out, so for now our team does the move with you.
They stay with Microsoft while your subscription runs. Download anything you want to keep before you cancel, or keep a Microsoft plan that includes OneDrive.
No. Mail keeps arriving at Microsoft 365 until your domain is pointed at us, then it arrives at Sora Mail. Keep your Microsoft 365 account for a few days afterwards in case anything straggles in, and you won't miss a thing.
That's true for Australian sign-ups, so it isn't a reason on its own. The reasons are the price, a service that's just email done properly, your domain's health watched for you every day, and a real person in Australia when you email support.
In Australia, on Amazon's Sydney region. Incoming mail is stored on Amazon S3 the moment it arrives, before it reaches your inbox. We never show ads, never sell your data and never use your mail to train AI. Our staff only look when you ask us to.
